Barely a day after Malawi Congress Party President Dr Lazarus Chakwera registered to vote in the next year’s general election- Malawi Vice President and current leader of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) today accompanied by his wife went to register at Area 18 Anglican Church in the Capital City Lilongwe.
Chilima who has embarked on the launch of his party throughout the country has enjoyed a rise in popularity ever since he announced that he was leaving the ruling Democratic Progressive party. Last weekend, thousands of people flocked to Njamba Park in Blantyre to hear the Vice president deliver his party policies and promises which include the creation of one million jobs in his first year of office.
This is the second phase of the registration process. Malawi Electoral commission has said it is so far satisfied with the outcome in Lilongwe. The first phase that covered districts like Dedza faced apathy as many people were not interested to go and register.
