Blantyre City South West Shadow MP Leonard Chimbanga has announced that he has quit the party. Chimbanga known for his non partisan commentary of political issues on his social media made the revelation through his Facebook post . “
When I joined the DPP my first Speech at my welcoming in Ndirande Malabada by the Secretary General and the regional Governor of the South I promised that I would be contributing constructively to the Party and true to my word i lived up to that promise.
After revealing to hwat is belived to be the reason behind his dumping of the ruling party, Chimbnga went on to write
“I have decided to resign from the Party with immediate effect” read part of his statement
Chimbanga who joined DPP in 2017 after firstly getting involved with the Transformation Alliance of Moses Kunkuyu was poised to be one of the candidates contesting to be DPP torch bearer for the area. According to his post, Chimbanga found himself being denied nominations papers to stand as a DPP candidate for the area
According to Chimbanga, the real issues started when he expressed his opinion by criticising Hophmally Makande when Makande compared Mutharika to the Pope.
“However my recent condemnation on Hon Makande for dragging the Papacy and Vatican into local Politics didn’t go down well with some of the leaders of the Party and resulted in a backlash to the point that my Nomination forms for Primaries were turned down as the closing date had been reached that was reason I was given by the officials yet I had communicated with them and they assured me that they would accept my Nomination papers when i file them because they were aware of the reason that I was away attending a funeral of my grand mother.
I didn’t see anything wrong in condemning the Remarks made by the Honorable as a Catholic I would not stand undridled sycomphacy lack of limits in verbal abuse and desecration and the leadership idly smiling on.”
Chimbanga pledged continue with the Water Projects he have embarked on in Chilobwe for peopleto have access to clean water and have to rely on Madzi amuphiri. It is not known if Chimbanga will stand as an independent candidate. When contacted , The DPP office refused to comment on the matter.
