Trip Jay, one of Malawi’s renowned Gospel hip-hop artists, returned on 25 June 2018 with “31”, his first song after a one year break from music.
According to the rapper, the song which was premiered on MBC Radio 2 FM’s Made on Monday program, has been released to give his fans a picture of his new direction of music.
Trip Jay is no amateur in the music scene and with the new song, produced by TNO and Blage, he proves that he is a wordsmith.
Just like in many of his songs, there is a lot of wordplay that Trip Jay has used in “31” which shows his top notch level of creativity in preaching the gospel.
’31’ is basically a celebration song to people who have seen God being able to see them through in different situations.
“There are a lot of issues that are tackled in the song. Some issues are left for the listener to make sense of depending on the situation that one is going through,” he said
He further said the song also advises people who are going through some difficult times not to loose hope but to continue trusting in God. “This is also a song that gives hope to people as per the situations that they are going through. It encourages them that no matter what they are going through, God never leaves His own child and whatever God started, He will be able to see them through,” said Trip Jay who is signed to Brother’s Keeper Records.
Brother to fellow Christian rapper Pro Gain, Trip Jay started music in 2012 and dropped his mixtape titled Burden To a Blessing (BTB) in 2013. He realeased singles in between including ‘Ndi Ina Yake’ popularly known as “Christ ndi 1” whose video enjoys airplay up to date.
In 2016, the Blantyre based artist released his EP which he collaborated with an American based artist “Jay Stranger” titled Ndagwa Muchikondi Naye (NMN).
After the EP, Trip Jay released some singles before taking a break in 2017.
Now after the release of “31” where he shows his high levels of lyrical prowess, the rapper says he is back to give out the best and that he is currently working on a next project which he declined to disclose more details about.
“I am currently busy working on my new project. More details will communicated later but people should expect nothing but good music,” he said.
