Well, it seems football is ready to take over politics. Just as Liberia is celebrating the election of former Footballer, George Weah as their new president. Veteran football player for Nyasa Big Bullets Fischer Kondowe has disclosed his ambition to join politics by contesting as a Member of Parliament (MP)for Blantyre City South Constituency during the 2019 Tripartite Elections.
The revelation comes days after another footballer former flames and Big Bullets defender Peter Mponda , announced that he is joining politics and will contest as an MP in the same Blantyre City South Constituency , the same seat Kondowe is vying and currently held by Gospel Musician Allan Ngumuya. According to Kondowe, his aim is to serve people in the development of the area.
Kondowe however has been quick to clarify that his motive is not just to compete with Mponda
“It’s not that I am challenging Peter because we are fighting for the same cause whoever wins doesn’t matter to me.”
Kondowe has highlighted that George Weah’s election to presidency has inspired him. Blantyre city south constituency is proving to be a hotly contested seat with some of the notable names like Jimmy Banda, Moses Kunkuyu, Fawzia Osman, the incumbent Ngumuya plus Kondowe and Mponda ready to contest.
