Mr. Maxwell Phiri, owner of Mlatho Mponela FC, has died in a road accident in Ntcheu last night. The news has shocked most football fans as his team Mlatho Mponela has just been promoted to the TNM Super League from Chipiku Premier Division.
Reports reaching us suggest the fatal accident happened on Sunday night at Tsamba area along Masasa-Golomoti S127 road involving a motor vehicle registration number NS 3396 Toyota Hilux driven by Mr. Maxwell Phiri.
Maxwel Phiri was driving from the direction of Masasa heading Golomoti with two passengers on board. On arrival at Tsamba area due to speeding, he failed to negotiate a bend and swerved to the nearside of the road where the motor vehicle rested sideways in a nearby water way. Following the impact, he sustained a fractured right arm and died at Dedza District Hospital due to loss of blood whilst the other passengers escaped unhurt.
Phiri was aged 39 and hailed from Mavenje Vge, T/A Zulu, D. Mchinji .
