MALGA funds MCC K90 Million for new urban profiles

Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA) has funded Mzuzu City Council K90 million to enable them address their current challenges and upgrade their urban profiles using strategic plans that have been put in place.

Speaking during District Executive Meeting (DEC), on Monday, Project Offer for MALGA, Hadrod Mkandawire, said they have received funding from Tilitonse Foundation which is being used to fund the project.

He said the project would run for seven and half months to help develop hospitals, schools, roads and other infrastructure.

“There has been some gaps in our local councils thus why we asked Tilitonse foundation for support to address the challenges.
“We cannot operate if we do not have a plan thus why MALGA came up with some strategic plans to help the council upgrade their urban profiles, “Mkandawire said.

Mzuzu City Council Deputy Director for Planning and Policy, Walusungu Kayira, said they would review its plans which would help them run their developmental projects.

“We will work hand in hand with different public and private stakeholders so that we improve in preparing development projects,” he said.

Kayira said over the year’s government has tried to put aside some funds for some local development plans but it is very important that other stake holders come in and take part.

“For years the implementation of the local development plans has been a challenge because of finances but with the coming in of this funding many priorities will be tackled,” he added.

This Project is starting September and is expected to end in the coming seven months.
