MCP rubbishes false allegations about Campaign funding

The opposition Malawi congress Party has issued a statement denying the false reports making rounds in social media about the state of its campaign funding and assets. According to the party, article has been going round the social media claiming that the party has set a deal with Businessman Simbi  to fund the party campaign and that in return all the party assets will be in his name.

In a statement made by the party’s spokesman Rev Maurice Munthali said “It is no secret that Malawi Congress Party and its assets belong to the Malawian people. This is unlike all other parties, new and old, that are conceived illegitimately and are run as personal properties of their founders and presidential candidates without any mandate from the Malawian people through national conventions, or public resolutions of their governing councils, or democratic elections of their area structures, or competitive primaries to elect their candidates, let alone official registration with the regulatory authorities.

According to the article making rounds on social media, it claims that MCP Party has been assured of a 10 billion Kwacha campaign donation from one Malawian businessman named Simbi, and that the Party has put up its assets and facilities nationwide as surety to acquire the purported donation.   It also claims the Party has entered this fabricated deal as a safeguard for the possibility that it may lose the 2019 elections.

Reverend Munthali said Malawians from Nsanje to Chitipa give sacrificially to fund the MCP because they have every reason to believe and be confident that under the transformational leadership of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, MCP is on course to form the next government.  He therefore urged all Malawians not to be deterred by these fake articles written by fake journalists who are on the payroll of fake parties being run on stolen money from DPP thieves.
