Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in Mangochi for allegedly being connected with the assault of UTM members on Sunday in the district.
National Police Spokesperson, James Kadadzera, has identified the suspect as Adam Masitala, saying other suspects are likely to be arrested as investigations are still underway on the matter.
“Information that we are gathering indicates that he was not alone. We are still preaching same message we have been preaching as police that we want people to live in harmony and with tolerance.
“We are here to protect each and every citizen of the country regardless of political affiliation,” he said.
Kadadzera, however, said it would be premature to say what police have found out from the suspect on his motive behind the action
He said that what Malawians should know now is that police have arrested one of the suspects.
On Sunday, some UTM followers were assaulted at M’baluku in Mangochi as they were travelling to a political rally in the district.
