Peoples Party-PP has brushed aside rumours that it’s leader former state president Dr Joyce Banda met the incumbent President Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika within the week.
During the week, social media was awash with rumours that Banda – accompanied by PP Vice President for the East Roy Kachale Banda, who also happens to be her son,- had a meeting with Mutharika on Thursday.
But in a statement released by the party’s Deputy Spokesperson Ackson Kalaile Banda, the party dismissed the rumours saying they are being spread by few desperate individuals with the aim of confusing it’s supporters.
“On the said day, (Thursday) Dr Banda was travelling by road from Lilongwe to Zomba via Liwonde, and her schedule only involved interacting with party members along the route,” reads part of the statement.
The statement further clarified that Kachale has been out of the country for the past weeks and has only returned on Saturday.
“Hon. Roy Kachale Banda has been out of the country for the past weeks on official duties at Pan African Parliament in South Africa and only returned on Saturday, two days after the alleged meeting,”
The party has since called on it’s supporters not to be blinded and distracted by such rumours as the party is fully repared to contest in the 2019 elections.
Dr Joyce Banda, who made history by becoming Malawi’s first female president, returned home afew weeks ago after a four-year self-imposed exile.
