Repatriation of Late Prof Chikaonda Delays as ireland’s Mzoma and Chapeyama bodies to arrive this week

The family of the late Professor Mathews Chikaonda says his body may not arrive in the country from the US on Thursday as earlier planned due to logistical challenges.

A family member said the body did not leave the US today [Tuesday] as scheduled, and new arrangements are being made, which will eventually mean change of the burial date from Friday.

The former governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi will be laid to rest at his home village, Ntakataka in Dedza district.

Professor Chikaonda also served as finance minister and was the longest serving CEO of Press Corporation Limited, Malawian owned successful conglomerate.

In a related development, the bodies Limbani Mzoma, a Malawian man who was brutally murdered, and Rashid Chapeyama – who committed suicide in Dublin – Ireland, are expected to arrive in the country this week.

Spokesperson for Association of Malawians in Ireland, Henry Mkumbira says the other body of Mr. Rashid Chapeyama who allegedly committed suicide is expected to leave Ireland tomorrow.
