By Burnett Munthali

The Road Development Agency (RDA) has made significant strides in restoring road connectivity at Mphamba Bridge in Lundazi District, Eastern Province, Zambia working tirelessly in collaboration with other stakeholders.

The bridge, which provides a vital link to Chief Chitungulu’s area, had been rendered impassable and unsafe for all vehicular traffic after persistent flash floods in the district washed away both approaches to the bridge.

RDA Chief Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager, Anthony Mulowa, has confirmed that backfilling works on the northern, Lundazi side of the bridge have been completed, marking a major milestone in the repair efforts.

Meanwhile, the assembly of ACROW bridge components on the southern, Mphamba side is currently underway, with the RDA working around the clock to ensure the emergency repair works are completed as soon as possible.

According to Mulowa, the emergency repair works are expected to be completed by Wednesday, January 7, 2026, bringing much-needed relief to motorists and residents in the area.

The RDA, in partnership with other stakeholders, immediately sprang into action to restore safe access to the bridge, recognising the importance of the route to the local community and economy.

Mulowa has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to motorists and assured road users that every effort is being made to restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible, minimising disruptions to daily life and commerce.

The RDA’s prompt response to the emergency situation has been welcomed by residents and businesses in the area, who are eager to see the bridge reopened and the road network restored to full functionality.

As the repair works near completion, the RDA is optimistic that the bridge will soon be reopened to traffic, reconnecting communities and facilitating the smooth flow of goods and services.

The successful completion of the emergency repair works will be a significant boost to the local economy and a testament to the RDA’s commitment to maintaining and improving Malawi’s road infrastructure.

With the repair works progressing smoothly, residents and motorists in Lundazi District can look forward to a brighter future, with improved road connectivity and enhanced access to markets, services, and opportunities.

MTV Signs Off After 44 Years on Air

By Rahim Abdul

After operating for 44 years, MTV has officially shut down, bringing an end to one of the most influential television brands in music and pop culture history. The channel that once defined youth culture across generations has finally gone silent.

MTV first launched as a revolutionary platform that placed music videos at the center of entertainment. Its bold visuals, creative storytelling and nonstop music quickly transformed how artists connected with audiences around the world.

For decades, MTV was the ultimate destination for music discovery, breaking global superstars and shaping trends in fashion, language, and lifestyle. From rock and pop to hip-hop and R&B, the channel reflected the changing sounds of each era.

However, the rise of digital platforms gradually altered viewing habits. Audiences began shifting away from scheduled television to on-demand content available anytime and anywhere.

Platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and various music streaming services have now taken over music discovery and video viewing. Short-form videos, algorithms, and instant access have become the new norm for younger audiences.

MTV’s top management confirmed that the channel steadily lost relevance as these platforms gained dominance. Despite several attempts to reinvent itself, the station struggled to keep pace with rapid digital innovation.

Over time, music videos once MTV’s core identity  became less central to its programming. Reality shows and entertainment content filled the gap, but the shift diluted the brand’s original purpose.

Despite its closure, MTV’s legacy remains deeply embedded in global pop culture. Its impact on music, television, and visual storytelling continues to influence today’s digital creators.

Aidfest and Kineo to Pursue Solo Careers While Keeping Duo Door Open

By Rahim Abdul

Malawian music duo Aidfest and Kineo have announced a shift in their musical journey, revealing that they will begin performing as solo artists starting this year after nearly three years of working together.

In a statement released by their management, Madness Entertainment, the move has been described as a strategic decision aimed at personal growth rather than a breakup. The management emphasized that the two artists remain united and committed to supporting each other’s careers.

According to the statement, allowing Aidfest and Kineo to work individually will give each musician the space to explore their unique sound, creativity, and artistic identity, something that is often limited when artists operate strictly as a duo.

Madness Entertainment further clarified that fans should not interpret the decision as the end of their collaboration. The duo is expected to reunite from time to time to work on selected joint projects, including a few songs that may be released in the future.

Aidfest and Kineo rose to prominence through their energetic performances and relatable lyrics, earning a strong fan base across Malawi.

Songs such as Nafe and Mpweche helped cement their status as one of the notable musical pairings of recent years.

During their time together, the two artists achieved significant milestones, including winning several music awards and successfully releasing a joint album that showcased their chemistry and musical versatility.

Music analysts say the decision reflects a growing trend in the industry, where artists balance group collaborations with solo ambitions to remain relevant and competitive in a fast-changing music landscape.

Fans have taken to social media to share mixed reactions, with some expressing sadness over fewer joint performances, while others have welcomed the move, saying it could bring fresh sounds and new energy from both artists.

As Aidfest and Kineo embark on their solo paths, expectations are high that the experience will not only elevate their individual brands but also enrich any future collaborations they choose to pursue together.
