Tributes pour for Music producer Chris Kele who has died

One of the celebrated Malawi music producers, Chris Kele has sadly passed away. A veteran of the music game , Kele who was a musician turned producer breathed his last at his base in South Africa where he has been residing for the past 11 years.

Making the announcement on social media, the producers brother Mada Chpwaila wrote “It is with great sadness that I announce the demise of my young brother, Christopher Chipwaila, who most knew as Chris Kele, in south africa this morning.

The family is currently working on repatriating the body back home for the burial. In the mean time we will keep you updated on the arrangements”

We mourn with hope as he joins the angels in singing with the angels as he lived and has departed for music which he loved so much”

Born Christopher Chipwaila, Kele burst onto the music scene in the late 90’s as a dancehall singer calling himself Palm C. He then reinvented himself as an RnB crooner releasing an album which contained hits like Uzibweza Ngongole which enjoyed a lot of airtime at the time. His later years saw him be a member of music groups like Acacius Band  and the Zigzaggers. He the focused more on producing music working with a lot of Malawians big names such as Limbani Banda

Chris Kele later moved to South Africa where he continued to produce and perform focusing more on Jazz Music

Chris Kele died on Wednesday morning at Baragwanath Hospital.  The music fraternity has led tributes for the fallen talented start whose funeral details will be released later

Eric Paliani who perfomed with Kele in Acacius Band and spent time together in RSA wrote ‘Oh man. Christopher Chipwaila. I thought we were going to jam one more time in this life at the Acacias Band Reunion. I have tales, stories that I will hold on to. RIP bro!”

Code Sangala wrote “It’s starting to register that the news is actually real. Still processing,still shocked.One of Malawi’s guitar greats,rest well Chris Kele.Thank you for your bass line on #nkhawa.We were honoured to work with you on our first album. Terrible loss to the Malawi music industry!Gutted!

Nyamndoro Mthenga who seemed to have had plans in the pipelan with Kely wrote “Chris Kelle. You told me you were coming back. You promised to record me. What is this now… Only God knows.

Ambassadors Charity Trust in Education for all initiative

In an effort to bail out needy students from school fee glitches, Ambassadors Charity Trust (ACT) has introduced an initiative dubbed “Education for All, Malawi”.


According to the Director for Ambassadors Charity Trust, Blessings Chiwosi, the aim of the initiative is to link up all willing stakeholders with the needy students to get refundable loans.
“Alot of students struggle and fail to pursue their education due to financial challenges and according to a recent report by Zodiak Broadcasting Station, at least 2000 students are at the edge of dropping out from school due to lack of tuition fees. The “Education for All, Malawi” program will aim at raising refundable loans to assist tertiary Malawian needy students who are at the verge of dropping out of school to achieve their tertiary education” He said.

However, Chiwosi has called upon all willing stakeholders to support the program with finances based on their ability.
“We are calling for all individuals, companies, businesses and organizations to sponsor directly or using any approach considered appropriate for this program to materialize. We assure that there will be transparency and accountability in the way the finances will be handled and a detailed report shall be made available to the public,” He said.

In his remarks one of the needy students at Malawi College of Health Sciences who have been seeking help from ACT Daniel Banda said the fees payment has been an outstanding challenge in his education background and the coming of the program is crucial to his career and future.
“I am grateful for the coming of ACT program to support students like me and this program will build and complete my goals and ambition. The program will be earnestly honored by my effort towards my excellence in studies and products that will as well foster the program to reach out to many students who are in similar situations,” he said.

The Initiative will be run by Ambassadors Charity Trust a registered Organization that strives on facilitating the provision of educational needs between students and willing stakeholders, and strict measures shall be put in place to ensure that the students pay back the loan so that the stakeholders should not face any inconveniences.

Education for All, Malawi program will benefit needy students from public and private institution and it will be incessant as the scholarship will be awarded upon scrutinizing the performance in terms of both academic and behavior.

Ndirande Stars wins Manchester Motors Cup

Ndirande Stars are the Champions of the K2.5 Million Manchester Motor Mechanical Centre U-20 Cup after beating Nyasa Big Bullets Youth 4-3 on post-match penalties, after it ended 1-all in the regulation time.

Kondwani Kucheza scored an earliest goal of the tournament having scored just two minutes into the game.

The Young Bullets got an equalizer in the 61 minute through substitute Matamanda Matchipisa after receiving a pass from Happy Mphepo.

Both sides continued to create a number of scoring opportunities but it still ended 1-all after 90 minutes forcing the game into penalties.

Ndirande Stars goalkeeper Hamid Msopa was the hero of the day after saving Happy Mphepo and Kumbukani Manto’s spot-kicks as Justice Zulu converted the last penalty for the Stars.

To reach the final stage, the Ndirande based side beat Griffin Young Stars 4-3 on post match penalties while Bullets Youth cruised to the final after seeing off Blantyre United 2-1.

TNM Super League: Silver survive Dedza Dynamos scare with 1-1 draw

Central region giants Silver Strikers on Monday came from behind to force a one all draw against spirited Dedza Dynamos at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

The visitors were the first to score through Clement Nyondo who scored just four minutes before the half hour mark after exchanging some passes with Charles Chipala and Promise Kamwendo.

The central bankers equalised just ten minutes in the second half through Zebron Kalima.

Both sides made some changes in the second half starting with Silver’s triple substitution in the opening minutes of the half.

Silver’s coach Daniel Kabwe substituted Stain Davie, Emmanuel Muyira and Maxwell Paipi, bringing in Frank Banda, Patrick Macheso and Taonga Chimodzi.

Later on the central bankers also introduced Mike Robert and Chisisi Maonga in place of Hardy Ng’andu and Duncain Nyoni while Dedza Dynamos brought in Limbani Phiri to replace Lameck Gamphani.

After the match, Silver Strikers assistant coach McDonald Yobe, blamed his strikers for failing to utilize scoring opportunities.

“Dedza is a good side and they played well today but it was us who created a lot of chances unfortunately our strikers failed to use those chances. This has been our biggest problem this season but we are still working on that; very soon people will see an improved Silver side,” said Yobe.

On his part Dedza Dynamos coach Dan Dzimkambani, expressed satisfaction with the result knowing that the team is just coming from a 1-nil defeat against Nyasa Big Bullets.

He said, “It’s good that the guys have responded well from our loss against Bullets and we will keep on encouraging them so that we continue collecting points in the coming games.”

Silver Strikers are now on eighth position with eight points from five games and their next assignment is against second placed Blue Eagles FC at Nankhaka on Sunday.

On the other hand, Dynamos who are perched on seventh position with eight points as well, will be away against Waka Waka Tigers at Mpira Stadium on Saturday.

Married again: Information Minister Gospel Kazako weds

Information Minister Gospel Kazako on Monday tied the knot with his long time sweetheart Chikondi Moyo.

The wedding officiation ceremony of the two took at Lingadzi CCAP in Lilongwe and was officiated by Reverend Winston Kawale.

Vice President Saulos Chilima, cabinet ministers Richard Chimwendo Banda, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, Blessings Chinsinga and deputy cabinet minister John Bande, were among others notable people that attended the officiation ceremony.

Meanwhile a private wedding reception is expected to take place at Kumbali Lodge in the capital city and attendance is strictly by invitation.

Kazako was once married to late Flora Mkusankhoma who was working with state broadcaster-MBC but they divorced years before her death.

On the other hand, Chikondi was once married to Amos Beni but the two devorced in 2018.
