Chirimba Community Day Secondary (CDSS) and Luchenza Secondary School have on Monday been announced inaugural winners of the 2023 ICT Specialists Teachers Association of Malawi (ISTAM) Computer Studies Quiz competition held at Lilongwe Technical College.
Chirimba CDSS outclassed 19 other schools in junior category (Form 1), while Luchenza Secondary scooped position one in the senior category (Form 3) in a tightly contested quiz competition.
On the other hand, Dzenza Secondary School and Ekwendeni Girls Secondary School finished second and third in the junior category, respectively.
Malindi Secondary School and Ekwendeni Girls Secondary equally finished second and third in the senior category, respectively.
Speaking to journalists, ISTAM President Masemo Kinyota Banda said the competition was aimed at improving the performance of students and prepare them for tertiary education.
“The future of ICT will be brilliant if we carry everyone along and if we work together as a team, we will make a great improvement and eventually Malawi might the next USA or any country in terms of manufacturing,” said Banda.
On his part, Director of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Ministry of Education, Professor Chomora Mikeka stressed the need for concerned efforts and resource mobilization to enhance and scale up the learning and teaching of ICT concepts at primary and secondary schools to create young innovators from the grassroots.
Mikeka said government wants to accelerate the country’s transition to an upper middle-income by creating a vibrant knowledge-based digital economy by, among others, equipping academic institutions with world class ICT laboratories.
Malawi is one of the developing countries trying to tap into the benefits of the digital world.
Despite its limited resources, the country is reaping the benefits of modern ICT in different sectors, including but not limited to health, education, finance and agriculture, though with glitches.
Agriculture is the mainstay of the country’s economy, and such players in the sector are trying to take advantage of different ICT tools to improve farming, which makes up for the ways of earning a living for almost 80% of the 18 million-plus population.
The Director of Strategic planning in the Malawi Congress Party Dr Ken Zikhale Ng’oma continues his onslaught of previously DPP stronghold as he has lined up development rallies in Nsanje and Phalombe this coming weekend . Zikhale who is also the Minister of Homeland Security, has wasted no time but thrown himself in the deep end to get to areas where MCP was not dominant in an attempt to get the masses hear first hand information about the developments that the Chakwera administration is delivering in this country.
Already described as one of the hardworking Cabinet Ministers and one with a no nonsense approach , he has received applause from various stakeholders including the international community on the way he has handled the issue of refugees, especially those from Burundi and Rwanda.
A very experienced and arguably one of the best political strategist in the country, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma has galvanised the party senior members to engage with the grassroots by conducting rallies in various districts around the country. His big milestone so far has been how he has penetrated the southern Region , and managed to get people loving MCP more and more.

The District Chairman went further to say Zikhale is showing the he is not selfish by working hard for the party as he is making sure that in all these rallies , everyone is involved including other Cabinet Ministers , and local leaders.
Details of the Phalombe and Nsanje rallies will be fully announced. This comes after a very successful week where Zikhale and Brown Mpinganjira held a mammoth rally in Nyambadwe and as Guest of Honour at a rally in Kasungu
Fan and critics across the country have been reacting to Driemo’s newest single ‘Popo’ a few days after it’s release on July 6.
More than 300,000 people have so far tuned in to watch the song which is the lead single off the singer’s upcoming album ‘Mzaliwa’ on YouTube – with most of the fans commending the artist for the beautiful song with some having a different view on the song.
One music fanatic Best Balala claimed that Driemo is one of the best artists in the country.
“See what happens when you take time to craft your art properly?? Ine i listen to Rap but if someone asked me for a perspective on this type of music… this guy would be on the top of the list ..”
Another music follower Frazer Moses said the new song has a great concept and the video is of high quality but expressed reservations on the choice of actors and vehicles.
“The music itself is amazing, and the story behind it is also great. The video quality is high and meets all standards. The choice of scenes is commendable. However, I believe we can enhance the overall experience by improving the selection of actors and vehicles. It would have been great to see police vehicles incorporated into certain scenes.”
Another Facebook user Mtembi Blue Nyt was all praises for the artist and his new song.
“Dear Driemo this is beautiful not because you did mention my Kingdom Karonga and not that you wanna call the police because of our beautiful lady but the song plus the video on point Thanks to Director Twice P you never disappoint,” he said.
While admitting that Driemo is a good artist, social media influencer Yangairo Yangairo has a different view on the new song.
” All I can say is that, He is one great artist, but this song is not one of his great compositions.. it’s below par. I liked the thought of the concept in the music video though it was ejaculated prematurely. That concept needed a lot of attention to detail which is so lacking in this one. He has left too much room for improvement.”

Battle for supremacy in the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is far from over. Recently it was DPP Publicity Secretary Nicholas Dausi who rubished his own party describing what is happening in the party as shameful.
Barely few days after Dausi had scotched the party, on Monday Member of Parliament for Chitipa South, Werani Chilenga, has described the meeting the party held on July 3, 2023, as the most disorganized meeting he has ever attended in his life.
He added that the Nkopola Lodge meeting was a sham, which needed not to come from a party that claims to be democratic.
Chilenga at the Press Conference
Chilenga made the sentiments at a press briefing where a selection of disappointed NGC members held in Lilongwe on Monday. Others who attended the presser were Dr. Matthews Ngwale of Chiradzulu West, Baxter Kita, among others.
Chilenga revealed that NGC members, with seemingly dissenting views, were gagged throughout the meeting.
“That’s why I am saying this is the worst and strangest meeting I have ever attended in my life. And I would not wish to attend such a meeting in my life again,” vowed Chilenda who is also the Deputy Director of Research and Training in the former governing party.
“In fact, let me emphasize that the NGC meeting in Mangochi was an illegitimate one because some of the people that attended the meeting are not NGC members,” he said.
“We are demanding a constituted NGC meeting,” he added.
The press conference was organized to brief journalists on the resolutions made at the Nkopola Lodge meeting, which they are apparently opposed to.
Chilenga disclosed that majority of the NGC members were ambushed as they were not served with the agenda of the meeting, including the endorsement of party leader Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as torchbearer in the 2025 presidential elections.
Speaking earlier, Deputy Director of Political Affairs, Baxter Kita, said the NGC meeting had exposed that DPP leaders do not respect their own party’s constitution.
Kita wondered why the party had chosen to contravene its own constitution by extending the terms of office for NGC members.
“We are very disappointed with the way the meeting was conducted. It was a staged meeting to endorse APM. Some members were strategically positioned to endorse APM. Otherwise we have no reasons to prolong our stay in positions. We simply need a legitimate NGC meeting and thereafter an elective conference so that we seek new mandate,” he said.
The concerned NGC members said they expect the Central Committee of the party to arrange another meeting ‘as soon as yesterday’.
