Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Roza Fatch Mbilizi, has directed the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) to put in place measures to reduce long queues of people selling maize at the Chilambula Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC ) depot in the capital Lilongwe.

Mbilizi issued the directive during a visit to the depot on Friday following reports that farmers and traders were spending long hours waiting to offload their maize.

She instructed NFRA management to ensure that at least 20 large trucks are offloaded per day in order to speed up operations and ease congestion at the depot.

The minister further disclosed that government plans to purchase between 50,000 and 80,000 metric tonnes of maize locally, a figure higher than the initial projection.

On his part,NFRA Chief Executive Officer (CEO ) George Macheka confirmed that operations at the Chilambula depot have returned to normal after earlier disruptions.

He explained that the delays were partly caused by some drivers who had fumigated their maize and were turned away for not complying with set procedures.

Macheka said the affected drivers later discouraged others from offloading their maize, worsening the situation.

“Drivers who initially bypassed the rules have now accepted the arrangements, and the backlog will be cleared in the coming days,” he said.

To further improve maize reception, Macheka said NFRA has introduced a night shift and extended operations to weekends to ensure a steady flow of trucks and timely offloading.

Stone Mwamadi has resigned from his position as fitness trainer at FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, bringing to an end months of uncertainty surrounding his role at the club.

Mwamadi announced his decision four months after he was suspended from duty following issues linked to an ongoing police investigation.

The development marks a significant change in the club’s technical backroom staff, as Mwamadi had been part of the Bullets’ fitness department before his suspension.

On October 11, 2025, Big Bullets placed Mwamadi on suspension and appointed Chingeni Gumbula Kadam’manga to act as fitness trainer while investigations were underway.

Explaining his decision, Mwamadi said he felt it was wise to step aside, noting that since the matter began, he was never given an opportunity to be heard or to present his side of the story.

He indicated that the absence of engagement from relevant authorities influenced his choice to resign rather than continue waiting under suspension.

Despite his departure from the leadership role, Mwamadi emphasized that he remains part of the club in another capacity, now serving as an ordinary member.

He also extended his best wishes to Big Bullets, expressing hope that the team continues to perform well in its future engagements.

The resignation comes at a time when the club is preparing for ongoing competitions and restructuring its technical team.

Efforts to obtain a comment from Big Bullets Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga proved unsuccessful, as his mobile phone went unanswered by the time of filing this report.

Kadankowa scoops K35 million with creative spoken word performance

By Rahim Abdul

Mlakatuli Isaac Kadankowa has emerged as the overall winner of the Malawi Has Talent competition, walking away with a grand prize of K35 million after an electrifying final held on Sunday.

The finale of the national talent show took place under the joint organization of Goshen City and Times Group, drawing a packed audience that was treated to a wide range of performances showcasing Malawi’s rich creative diversity.

Contestants displayed various forms of talent, including singing, dancing and spoken word, turning the final event into a colourful celebration of artistic expression and innovation.

Kadankowa’s victory, however, stood out for its originality and powerful delivery, setting him apart from the rest of the finalists in a highly competitive showdown.

Unlike the conventional style of spoken word poetry, where a performer stands alone reciting verses, Kadankowa introduced a dramatic theatrical element that brought his message vividly to life on stage.

He performed alongside a group of actors who visually interpreted his words, creating live scenes that reflected everyday realities and key issues affecting Malawian society.

The performers were dressed as people from different professions, including political party supporters, police officers, health workers, students and religious leaders, each carrying tools or symbols associated with their roles in national development.

This creative approach helped the audience easily connect with the message, as the performance mirrored real life situations familiar to many Malawians.

One of the most memorable moments came when Kadankowa referenced Malawi’s former president, Hastings Kamuzu Banda, prompting the appearance of a performer dressed in Malawi Congress Party regalia and carrying a fly whisk, a gesture that sparked excitement and loud applause.

Judges and spectators alike praised the performance for its depth, relevance and strong visual storytelling, describing it as both entertaining and thought provoking.

The win marks a major milestone in Kadankowa’s artistic journey, positioning him as one of the country’s most promising spoken word artists.

Meanwhile, Goshen City leader Shepherd Bushiri emphasized the importance of nurturing talent, saying platforms like Malawi Has Talent are vital in discovering, protecting and promoting creative potential across different sectors.

Bobi Wine’s daring move: A calculated gamble or reckless risk?

By Burnett Munthali

Bobi Wine, the Ugandan opposition leader, has sparked intense debate with a video he released while reportedly in hiding, showcasing a city skyline in the background.

The video, filmed outdoors, has raised concerns among supporters who fear that the visible skyline could compromise Bob, who is in hiding to evade arrest, and could potentially lead security agencies to his location.

Many have taken to social media to question the wisdom of Bobi Wine’s decision, with some labeling it a reckless and irresponsible move that puts his safety and the safety of those around him at risk.

On the other hand, others believe that the video was a deliberate attempt by Bobi Wine to show defiance and maintain visibility, despite the risks.

They argue that the move is a calculated political message, aimed at demonstrating that Bobi Wine remains active, unbroken, and in control of his narrative, even in the face of intense pressure and raids on his family.

The debate highlights the complexities of Bobi Wine’s situation, as he balances the need to stay safe with the desire to remain relevant and vocal in Ugandan politics.

Bobi Wine’s decision to release the video has also sparked discussions about the role of social media in politics, and the ways in which politicians use online platforms to shape their public image and convey messages to their supporters.

As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: Bobi Wine’s move has succeeded in capturing the attention of the public and sparking a heated debate about his tactics and strategy.
