Malawi Congress Party (MCP) on Saturday unveiled Gift Nankhuni as Lilongwe City Centre aspirant Member of Parliament (MP) at a mega development rally held at Chatata ground.
Secretary General for MCP Richard Chimwendo Banda during the mega rally assured people of Chatata in the area of of Traditional Authority Chitukula in Lilongwe continued development projects including the social cash transfer program which they are already benefiting.
Chimwendo-Banda lamented that people in the area needs a lot of developments activities to be completed and the only way to succeed is through Gift Nankhuni as the Member of Parliament during the forth coming September 16 general elections.
“Nankhuni will continue where Honorable Alfred Jiya left and also supporting Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in developing Lilongwe, we also assure people here that President Chakwera will always support them in time of need and in difficult situation,” he said.
Chimwendo was also quick to react on the issue of dry spell which has hit the area as T/A Chatata on behalf of T/A Chitukula worried about the hunger situation in their area and the Secretary General said government has already made plans to distribute maize in this lean season as people are in urgent need of direct support in form of food including areas of Chatata, Kauma, Mbwetu and the sorrounding areas.
“We are also preaching against violence, there are times we speak against violence and people sometimes think that we are just saying this on our podiums but we are also serious as government as we say that this country we have to move in unity, we need to make sure there is peace, all political parties in the country have to maintain peace as for us in the Malawi Congress Party we promote peace among all members,” he added.
Shadow Member of Parliament for the area, Gift Nankhuni has since pledged to continue doing what he has always been doing. He said his first task will be to build a rural hospital in Chatata.
During the rally, Senior Group Chatata commended the President for all the development projects taking place in the area.
Chatata gave an example of Security houses which the President has constructed in his area.
