Bishop Mackenzie International School (BMIS) in Lilongwe is set to host a juniors chess tournament this Saturday, organized by Mwale Chess Academy and Central Region Chess League (CRCL).
The event has garnered significant interest, with registration currently underway and set to conclude by close of business today.
According to Fide Master (FM) Joseph Mwale, founder of Mwale Chess Academy and national champion, the tournament is being held with support from BMIS and the Chess Association of Malawi (Chessam).

The six-round competition will feature three categories: under-eight, under-12, and under-18, open to both boys and girls.
The tournament has attracted international participation, with Zambian player Chilango Songwe traveling to Lilongwe with his parents to take part in the event.
This adds an exciting dimension to the competition, providing local players with the opportunity to test their skills against opponents from other countries.
FM Mwale’s initiative to promote chess among young people is commendable, and this tournament is expected to be a thrilling display of strategic thinking and skill.
With its inclusive approach and support from key organizations, the event promises to be a highlight of the chess calendar in the region.
