By Chisomo Phiri

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has appointed French national Yvon Avry as its new Technical Director.

Avry takes over the position that has been vacant since the departure of Benjamin Kumwenda earlier this year.

According to a statement released by FAM, the appointment follows a competitive recruitment process that attracted 17 applicants from across the globe.

“After an initial screening, three candidates were shortlisted and interviewed on 23rd September 2025 by a panel comprising representatives from FAM’s Technical, Administrative, and Human Resources departments,” reads the statement.

It adds:“Following the evaluation, Avry emerged as the top candidate based on his qualifications, international experience, and a technical vision that aligns with FAM’s developmental objectives.”

Avry holds a UEFA A Diploma and brings extensive international experience to Malawian football.

He previously served as Technical Advisor for the Fédération Malagasy de Football (FMF) and most recently worked as Technical Director for Fosa Juniors FC in Majunga, Madagascar.

Before his tenure in Madagascar, Avry was Technical Director of the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) from July 2017 to July 2018, where he played a key role in establishing youth development structures and coach education programs.
