Mwaungulu extends stay at TP Mazembe until 2027

By Rahim Abdul

Flames midfield Patrick Mwaungulu has extended his stay at Congolese giants TP Mazembe after the club confirmed a new contract running until 2027.

Mazembe announced the development through a statement published on their official platforms, securing the Malawian international beyond his initial deal that was set to expire in 2026.

Mwaungulu, who joined the Lubumbashi-based outfit from FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, had originally signed a two year contract but his impressive adaptation and growing influence in midfield appear to have convinced the club to reward him with an extension.

The contract renewal is seen as a vote of confidence in the Flames star, who is regarded as one of Malawi’s most promising midfielders and a key asset for both club and country.

Since arriving at Mazembe, Mwaungulu has shown discipline, tactical awareness and work rate, qualities that fit well with the club’s competitive ambitions both domestically and in continental competitions.

However, while Mwaungulu’s future has now been clarified, uncertainty still surrounds fellow Malawian international Lanjesi Nkhoma.

Nkhoma also joined TP Mazembe from FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at the same time as Mwaungulu but the club has not issued any official communication regarding his contractual status or long-term plans.

The silence has sparked speculation among Malawian football followers, with many keen to know whether Nkhoma will also be retained, loaned out, or released when his current deal expires.
