3 dead, 21 injured after warehouse wall collapses at GM Plastics in Limbe

By Burnett Munthali

Three people have died and 21 others have been injured after a warehouse wall under construction collapsed at GM Plastics Industries in Maone, Limbe Township.

The incident occurred on Thursday at around 2pm.

About 28 bricklayers and casual labourers were carrying out construction work on the warehouse at the time.

They had been building the structure for the past two weeks.

According to Limbe Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Demetria Banda, the wall suddenly collapsed.

The collapse trapped the workers beneath the rubble.

The deceased have only been identified as Pemphero, also known as Mulili, Manyesa and Bule.

Efforts to establish their full identities are underway.

Banda said police officers rushed to the scene after receiving the report.

They found that the victims had already been taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.

At the hospital, the three were pronounced dead on arrival.

The 21 injured workers were admitted and are receiving treatment.
