The Public Affairs Committee, PAC, has accused First Vice President of the Republic of Malawi Dr. Jane Ansah of allegedly using human rights activist Silvester Namiwa to target the presidency.
PAC Chairperson Bishop Matoga raised the concern following recent remarks by Namiwa on a local television program. During the show, Namiwa claimed that Dr. Ansah would become President of Malawi in the ext two months.
It has been revealed that Dr. Ansah is allegedly paying money to a civil society organizations to create momentum around the presidency.
The PAC Chairperson further stressed that the country can only have one president at a time. “No one should be talking about the presidency when the president is still in office. That undermines constitutional order,” Bishop Matoga said.
Meanwhile, CDEDI Chairperson Silvester Namiwa is currently in police custody in Lilongwe. Police have not yet issued a formal statement on the reasons for his detention
