The Poetry Association of Malawi has completed construction of a perimeter fence around its plot after receiving K16.75 million in financial support from the Copyright Fund.
President of the Poetry Association of Malawi, Robert Chiwamba, announced the development, saying the funding has enabled the association to transform its plot into a more secure and developed property.
Chiwamba said the association is now proud to have not only a plot but also a perimeter fence, describing the achievement as an important step towards fulfilling its long-term vision.
“I am happy to announce that we received K16,750,000 from the Copyright Fund to construct a perimeter fence around our association’s plot, and the work is now complete,” Chiwamba said.
He said it has always been his dream to see Malawian poets eventually have offices that they can call home.
According to Chiwamba, the journey started in 2021 when he approached Innobuild to request a plot for the association.
After securing the plot, he said the next step was to seek support for construction of the perimeter fence, which has now been successfully completed.
Chiwamba has since thanked the Copyright Fund for supporting the association and helping artists turn their dreams into reality.
“Thank you very much, Copyright Fund. You are making the dreams of artists come true,” he said.
He acknowledged that the association has limited financial resources but said its members would continue working with whatever little resources they can mobilise to develop the organisation.
“To my fellow poets, you know our association does not have money. But whatever little we can find, we will continue trying to use it to develop ourselves,” Chiwamba said.
