Flames head coach Kalisto Pasuwa has added FCB Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder Chawanangwa Gumbo and Silver Strikers midfielder Robert Saizi to the national team squad as Malawi steps up preparations for its next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Angola on October 6,2026.
The two midfielders were not part of Pasuwa’s initial squad for preparations ahead of Malawi’s opening Group B qualifier against South Sudan.
Malawi got its AFCON campaign off to a winning start after defeating South Sudan 2-1 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Pasuwa has now brought in Gumbo and Saizi as the Flames prepare for their second Group B assignment, which will take place away against Angola.
Gumbo has been an important midfield option for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, while Saizi has been featuring in midfield for Silver Strikers.
Their inclusion gives Pasuwa additional options in midfield as he works on his squad combinations and tactics ahead of the Angola encounter.
The Flames will be looking to build on their victory over South Sudan when they face Angola as they continue their quest to qualify for the 2027 AFCON finals.
