Bullets reach Airtel Top 8 Semifinals after beating Creck Sporting 1-0

By Durell Namasani

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are through to the semifinals of the Airtel Top 8 after beating Creck Sporting Club 1-0 at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.

Both sides started the game very well but it was Creck who first knocked on Bullets’ door through George Chaomba but his header went wide after receiving a cross from Hadgi Wali.

Chaomba had another opportunity to open the scoring in the 15th minute when he managed to beat Bullets’ Yankho Singo at the back but goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba managed to save the situation.

Bullets’ clearcut chance came in the 28th minute when Henry Chawaya’s cross found Maxwell Phodo who made no mistake but to head the ball home to give the visitors the lead.

Wongani Lungu almost doubled the lead for the People’s team in the 32nd minute but his shot was accidentally blocked by his teammate Babatunde Adepoju.

With just four minutes before half time George Chaomba almost leveled the scores after being set by Wali but his header was denied by the woodwork.

In the second half Creck Sporting continued to search for an equaliser as they created numerous scoring opportunities but Bullets  proved to be too strong at the back as they managed to defend the slender lead until the final whistle.

The win means that Bullets are through to the semifinals as the first leg at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

The People’s team who are also the defending champions will face the winner between Silver Strikers and Moyale Barraks in the semifinals.
