Former President Lazarus Chakwera has confirmed receiving a letter from the Commonwealth Secretariat appointing him as a peace envoy to Tanzania.
The appointment comes at a critical time as Tanzania faces political tensions following disagreements over recent elections.
Chakwera stated that he discussed the matter with Malawi’s President Peter Mutharika and has agreed to undertake the assignment.

He assured that his political party remains committed to strengthening governance at home while supporting peace and stability efforts abroad.
This development highlights Malawi’s role in promoting regional peace and the country’s contribution to resolving electoral disputes in neighbouring nations.
