President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has concluded his whistle-stop tour of Dedza District with a call for Malawians to acknowledge his government’s efforts in easing the movement of goods and to grant his administration another mandate in the upcoming September elections.
Addressing a crowd at Mtakataka Admarc, the President stated that his administration has worked tirelessly to lower transport costs, specifically citing the rehabilitation of railways as a key measure. He expressed concern that some business owners are deliberately hiking prices to sabotage these efforts and paint his administration in a bad light, describing the practice as a frustration against the common Malawian for political gain.
On the issue of food insecurity, President Chakwera acknowledged the challenges many households are facing but assured the public that measures are in place to ensure food distribution is carried out fairly and transparently, vowing not to allow anyone to exploit hunger for selfish gain. He further commended the people of Dedza for registering to vote in large numbers, describing the high turnout as a sign of democratic maturity.

Malawi Congress Party Regional Chairman for the Centre, Patrick Zebron Chilondola, and Senior Chief Chauma both praised the turnout and affirmed the region’s alignment with the MCP. Official figures confirm Dedza registered 355,183 eligible voters, the second-highest number in the country after Lilongwe.
