Malawi international Temwa Chawinga announced her return in style after finding the back of the net as Kansas City Current crushed Palmeiras 6-1 to successfully defend the Teal Rising Cup on Sunday.
The match turned into a one sided affair early on, with Kansas City Current delivering a ruthless attacking display that left their Brazilian opponents struggling to cope.
Having missed the opening fixture of the tournament due to injury, Chawinga was handed a starting role in what was only her second game since returning to action.

She quickly made her presence felt, leading from the front as her side tore through Palmeiras with speed, precision and confidence.
Kansas City Current effectively sealed the contest in the first half after netting six unanswered goals in a stunning attacking blitz.
Chawinga’s moment came in spectacular fashion, showcasing her trademark pace and composure inside the box.
The forward made a brilliant run from the left flank, gliding past two defenders before calmly beating the goalkeeper to slot home her side’s sixth goal of the match.
Her goal not only highlighted her individual quality but also signaled her full return to fitness following her recent injury setback.
The victory ensured that Kansas City Current retained the Teal Rising Cup, underlining their growing dominance in the competition.
For Chawinga, the triumph marked her first piece of silverware in the 2026 season with the club.
It was also a personal milestone, as the strike became her first goal of the campaign to go along with an assist in just two appearances.
With her confidence restored and fitness improving, Chawinga now looks set to play a key role as Kansas City Current push for more success in the season ahead.
