Deputy Chief Justice Lovemore Chikopa has challenged newly sworn-in Members of Parliament (MPs) to serve Malawians with diligence, humility, and honesty as they begin their five-year term.
Speaking on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Parliament Building in Lilongwe, Chikopa reminded the legislators that taking the oath of office signifies a solemn commitment to the citizens who entrusted them with the mandate to represent their constituencies.

“The National Assembly carries the hopes, aspirations, and challenges of all Malawians, which are translated into law and policy.May the 2025–2030 Parliament embody unity of purpose and fidelity to the Constitution of Malawi as you carry out your duties of legislation, oversight, and representation,” he said.
Chikopa urged the MPs to prioritize the welfare of the people they serve and to dedicate themselves to upholding the principles of good governance and accountability.
He emphasized that Parliament plays a central role in shaping the nation’s future and called on members to work together beyond party lines to advance national development and strengthen democratic institutions.
On Monday, a total of 111 MPs were sworn in while the remaining 113 will take their oaths on today completing the full set of 224 elected legislators.
