A disturbing incident has unfolded in Pemba District, Southern Province, where a married couple from Moyo Chiefdom physically assaulted each other following a heated domestic dispute.
The individuals involved have been identified as 54-year-old Charles Muchindu, a Chief’s Retainer, and his 45-year-old wife, Kasamba Chitombwe.

The violent altercation occurred in the early hours of 6th August 2025, around 02:00 hours, in Mukombo village.
According to reports, the conflict erupted after the wife allegedly exchanged their household oxen for cows with other farmers in the area without her husband’s consent.
This exchange sparked a major disagreement, which quickly escalated into a physical fight.
During the scuffle, the wife sustained serious injuries including a swollen face and puffiness around both eyes, which left her temporarily unable to see.
Additionally, her right middle finger was partially severed after her husband bit it during the confrontation.
In retaliation, Kasamba Chitombwe struck her husband, Charles Muchindu, on the right toe with an axe, causing the toe to partially detach and hang loosely by the skin.
She also bit his lower lip, leaving it partially cut and bleeding.
Following the incident, both individuals reported each other to the police, and they were initially taken to Pemba Mini Hospital for treatment.
They have since been referred to Monze Mission Hospital, where they are both currently admitted.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, confirmed that the couple is in stable condition.
Commissioner Daka further stated that both Muchindu and Chitombwe will be charged with Causing Grievous Harm, contrary to Section 229 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
The case has drawn public attention due to the intensity of the violence and the fact that both parties are facing legal consequences.
