Dimba expresses dissatisfaction with Namalomba’s reaction

By Dean Chisambo

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Phirilanjuzi constituency, Dimba, has expressed his dissatisfaction with Namalomba’s response regarding the missing boy with albinism in his constituency. Dimba raised the issue in the August House concerning the disappearance of Chipiliro, a person with albinism, who went missing five days ago and has not been found, despite reporting the matter to the police.

“I, as a leader and representative of the people, am very worried about what happened to our brother, and we are anxious about the issue,” Dimba said. The lawmaker stated that his intention was to inform the Speaker and members of Parliament about the serious matter, not to politicize it, as Namalomba had assumed.

Dimba described the missing person as an active member of society, having contested primary elections under the MCP ticket during the 2025 polls. He criticized Namalomba’s response as childish and unfortunate, saying he was not aware of who abducted Chipiliro. “I didn’t accuse anybody, including the government, but I was bringing the matter to the attention of the Honorable Minister of Homeland Security and the Speaker of Parliament,” he said.

Dimba added, “I want the government, through the police, to search for the missing person, as it is the government’s responsibility.”

In response, Deputy Leader of the House, Shadreck Namalomba, asked Malawians to join the government in questioning the leadership of MCP about their role in the abduction of people with albinism. “We are wondering, and we have statistics, that when we were in opposition, no single case was registered, but since we are in government, there are issues of missing people with albinism,” Namalomba said.

The Minister of Information accused MCP of being responsible for the abduction and killing of people with albinism. Namalomba later warned that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government will not tolerate such behavior and asked those responsible to stop, as the law will take its course.

Chipiliro comes from Chigonera village, Traditional Authority Masumbankhunda, in Lilongwe district.
