Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. George Chaponda has announced that he and the Minister of Finance held a productive engagement with Malawi’s development partners this evening.
According to Dr. Chaponda, the meeting was aimed at fostering a spirit of collaboration and shared responsibility as Malawi works to overcome its ongoing economic crisis.
He explained that the discussions centered on the urgent need for collective action to support the country’s economic recovery and reform agenda.

The ministers emphasized government’s unwavering commitment to restoring macroeconomic stability, promoting fiscal discipline, and ensuring that all ongoing and future cooperation directly benefits the people of Malawi.
Dr. Chaponda highlighted that development partners responded positively, expressing strong confidence in the government’s recovery plan and its determination to rebuild the nation’s economic foundations.
He described the engagement as both encouraging and constructive, noting that it reflected renewed international trust in Malawi’s governance and reform direction.
Dr. Chaponda further stated that the government will continue holding follow-up meetings with individual development partners in the coming days.
These bilateral engagements, he said, are intended to translate the shared commitment expressed during the meeting into concrete, actionable programs that can deliver tangible economic and social outcomes.
He reiterated that the administration remains dedicated to turning dialogue into action, ensuring that promises of support are matched by measurable progress on the ground.
