Editors have been described as key gatekeepers against both misinformation and disinformation by enhancing their fact checking skills.
The sentiments have been made by the chairperson of MISA Malawi Chapter Golden Matonga during an inaugural meeting of the Central Region Editors’ Forum in Lilongwe.
Matonga added that editors must ensure that newsrooms remain the ultimate vanguard in the fight for the truth.

In his remarks, Executive Director for the Media Council of Malawi Moses Kaufa hailed the coming together of editors through the forum, saying the common challenges faced by media houses, will now be confronted together, thereby strengthening the industry.
The meeting has since elected an interim committee to facilitate the formation of the Central Region Editors Forum among others.
The formation of the forum is expected to promote collaboration and excellence in journalism, ultimately benefiting the media landscape in Malawi.
The editors’ forum is also seen as a crucial step in promoting media accountability and professionalism in the country.
The meeting was held in Lilongwe and was attended by various stakeholders in the media industry.
The event marked a significant milestone in the journey towards a more robust and responsible media sector in Malawi.
