Goshen City Dedza Dynamos have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to start the new 2026/2027 football season on 18 April 2026.
The club believes the scheduled kick off date does not provide adequate time for rest and preparation, especially for teams that concluded last season’s competitions later than others.
General Secretary Kondwani Wiseman Banda said the team only wrapped up their previous campaign last week when they faced FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the final round of the Castel Challenge Cup.
According to Banda, the tight turnaround between the end of last season and the start of the new one puts players at risk of fatigue and limits proper recovery time.
He argued that FAM should have taken into account clubs that finished their fixtures late, allowing them enough time to rest and plan adequately for the upcoming campaign.
Banda emphasized that player welfare is critical, adding that proper rest is essential for maintaining performance levels and preventing injuries.
Despite their concerns, the club’s leadership has indicated that they will hold internal discussions to map the way forward ahead of the new season.
The officials are expected to deliberate on when the team should resume training and how best to structure their pre-season preparations under the tight schedule.
In addition, Goshen City Dedza Dynamos are planning to reinforce their squad by recruiting new players to strengthen key areas.
The club is currently conducting a scouting exercise under the Goshen City Talent Identification programme, aimed at identifying promising players who can add depth and quality to the squad.
Last Thursday, FAM officially announced that the 2026/2027 season will begin with the Charity Shield on 18 April 2026.
The flagship FDH Bank Premiership is scheduled to kick off a week later, on 25 April 2026.
