Ezekiel Peter Ching’oma, Malawi’s Minister of Homeland Security, has emerged victorious in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) primary parliamentary elections for the Lilongwe East Constituency. Ching’oma secured a commanding 2,129 votes, far outpacing his rivals.
His closest competitor, Mr. Young Nason Phiri, managed only 144 votes, while Starford Chilunje received 42 votes. Other contenders—Lameck Kapalamula Chirwa (33 votes), Christabel Manda Kalemba (27 votes), Elliot Emmanuel Mwale (5 votes), and Mzati Thunde (5 votes)—trailed significantly.

This decisive win positions Ching’oma as the MCP’s shadow MP candidate for Lilongwe East in the September 16 General Elections. The results underscore his strong support within the party and constituency as he prepares to contest for the parliamentary seat.
As the elections approach, all eyes will be on Lilongwe East to see if Ching’oma can replicate this success in the national race.
