Joyce Banda was chosen by God to lead Malawi again—Says People’s Party presidential campaign chair

By Burnett Munthali

People’s Party (PP) Chairperson for the Presidential Campaign, Chris Daza, has declared that former President Joyce Banda was divinely chosen to lead Malawi, arguing that her past leadership alone is enough to earn her the people’s trust in the upcoming elections.

Speaking at a political rally held at Kaviwale Ground in Mzuzu on Sunday, June 29, 2025, Daza told supporters that there is little need for an intensive campaign because Banda’s record in office speaks volumes.

He emphasized that Banda is the only Malawian president who took decisive steps in the fight against corruption, claiming she was firm in closing doors to corrupt practices and shielding public resources from abuse.

Daza added that what Joyce Banda achieved during her tenure as president has not been matched by any other leader to date, and he believes the country can only witness such progress again if she is re-elected in the upcoming polls.

He called on Malawians to reflect on Banda’s accomplishments and to make a bold choice to restore integrity and development by voting her back into power.

Echoing Daza’s sentiments, People’s Party Campaign Director Clifa Kondowe told the gathering that Malawians had been misled into electing a leader they believed would bring real change—only to be disappointed.

Kondowe referred to the current leadership as a “scam” that has failed the country both economically and socially, citing worsening hardships under the present administration.

She expressed confidence that Malawians will correct that mistake on September 16 by electing Joyce Banda, whom she described as a genuine leader with a proven track record.

The rally in Mzuzu marked a significant moment in the People’s Party’s campaign trail, as party leaders intensify efforts to bring Joyce Banda back into national leadership.
