Dowa, Malawi – Minister of Agriculture and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Director of Public Relations, Hon. Sam Dalitso Kawale, has secured victory in the party’s parliamentary primaries for Dowa North East Constituency. The incumbent MP defeated three challengers with a commanding lead, solidifying his position as the MCP’s candidate for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Kawale, who currently represents the constituency, polled significantly higher than his competitors. Kalilani Chunga trailed with 167 votes, followed by Pemphero Phiri with 132 votes, while Venansio Kashoni managed only 24 votes. The resounding win reaffirms Kawale’s popularity within the party and his constituency.

As Minister of Agriculture, Kawale has been a key figure in Malawi’s food security initiatives. His re-election as the MCP’s standard-bearer signals strong party confidence in his leadership ahead of the general elections. Political analysts suggest his victory positions him as a frontrunner in the parliamentary race, given the MCP’s influence in the region.
The primaries were conducted peacefully, with party officials commending the democratic process. Kawale expressed gratitude to delegates, pledging to continue delivering development projects in Dowa North East.
With the MCP ticket secured, Kawale now shifts focus to the national campaign, where he will face opponents from other parties. Observers will be watching closely to see if his primary success translates into another term in office.
