One of the leading construction companies in the SADC region, Khato Civils has contributed K20 million to sponsor the upcoming annual conference of the Malawi Engineering Institution (MIE), scheduled for 28–29 August in Salima.
Speaking during the sponsorship hand over ceremony in Lilongwe on Wednesday, Khato Civils Director of Finance, Pride Phiri, said the company recognizes the critical role engineers play in shaping communities and developing infrastructure in Malawi and across the SADC region, hence the support.

Phiri added that the company’s partnership with MIE will help strengthen the engineering profession by empowering practitioners and building their capacity.
On his part, MIE Chief Executive Officer(CEO ), Engineer Arthur Wengawenga, said the conference will focus on how engineers can enhance the quality of infrastructure in the country.
Khato Civils, together with South Zambezi, is currently implementing the multibillion-kwacha Lake Malawi Water project,the first of its kind which will pump 50 million litres of water per day from the lake to Lilongwe through a pipeline stretching over 130 kilometres.
The project is expected to benefit about 1.5 million people in Salima, Dowa, and Lilongwe districts.
