Malawian music icon Lulu has once again demonstrated the power of compassion and unity within the country’s entertainment industry by extending financial support to fellow musician Sir Paul Banda, who is currently undergoing dialysis treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
In a heartfelt post shared on his official Facebook page, Lulu revealed that he spent time with Sir Paul Banda at the hospital earlier in the morning before the latter’s dialysis session. His visit was not only to offer moral support but also to deliver crucial financial assistance towards Banda’s ongoing medical care.

Lulu stated that he had personally delivered K6.5 million to Sir Paul Banda, funds which were raised through contributions from well-wishers and fans across the country. He further noted that an additional K2 million had already been sent earlier, making the total donation to Sir Paul Banda’s medical treatment a combined K8.5 million.
He expressed his deep gratitude to everyone who contributed towards the initiative, emphasizing the importance of standing together during difficult times. Lulu also acknowledged the role of AKALAKO Home Choice in Mangochi, who generously donated curtains for the veteran musician’s recovery environment, reflecting how both individuals and companies have come forward to help.
The musician promised to maintain transparency by publishing a detailed financial report on all the funds collected and disbursed. “Tikupasani report ya ndalama zonse zomwe tatolera mawa,” he wrote, meaning “We will provide a full report of all the funds collected tomorrow.” This gesture has been widely praised by followers who see it as a sign of accountability and integrity.
Sir Paul Banda, a founding figure of Malawi’s contemporary music scene and leader of the Alleluya Band, has been battling kidney-related complications and has been undergoing regular dialysis. His condition has inspired a wave of solidarity among Malawian artists and fans alike.
Lulu’s act of kindness has drawn commendation from across the nation, with many describing it as a reminder of the deep sense of community that defines Malawi’s creative industry. His words and actions underscore the message that when artists support one another, they not only preserve their legacy but also strengthen the fabric of humanity.
Through this act, Lulu has not only offered financial help but also reignited a culture of empathy, setting an example for others to follow in caring for those who have shaped Malawi’s musical heritage.
