Malawi Congress Party Accuses Government of Fabricating Vandalism at Presidential Palace

By Wadza Botomani

LILONGWE – The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has stated that it does not believe some government workers vandalized various items at the state-owned Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

The party’s spokesperson, Jessie Kabwila, claimed that the goal of those spreading this story is to tarnish the reputation of the party and its leader, Lazarus Chakwera.

Kabwila suggested that the government wants to use this story as a pretext for senior officials to access funds by claiming they are repairing the alleged damaged property at Kamuzu Palace.

The party also expressed skepticism about the images some people are posting on social media platforms, claiming they show the damaged property. They stated that these pictures are actually of residences from other countries, while others have been digitally altered.

Recently, government officials claimed that workers at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe vandalized various items during the recent transition of power.
