The Malawi Law Society has issued a strong warning against premature declarations of victory in the recent tripartite elections. This statement follows claims of victory by the ruling Malawi Congress Party and other candidates.
The society emphasized that the Malawi Electoral Commission is the sole authority constitutionally mandated to determine and announce the final election results.

According to the law, the commission has up to eight days to publish presidential results, fourteen days for parliamentary results, and twenty-one days for local government results.
In a press statement signed by its Chairman, Davis Njobvu, the Society appealed to all political parties and their supporters to respect the legal process and patiently await the official results from the commission.
