Malawi Red Cross supports Cyclone-affected households

By Shaffie A Mtambo

The Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) has mobilized K550 million to support households affected by Cyclone Jude in Chikwawa District.

The funds, provided by the Danish Red Cross and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, will help alleviate the suffering of vulnerable communities.

During a distribution exercise, beneficiaries received K70,000 each, along with laundry and bathing soap.

MRCS plans to provide an additional K70,000 to each household after three weeks, bringing the total support to K140,000 per household.

The initiative also includes awareness and hygiene messaging, as well as malnutrition screening for under-five children.

Beneficiaries, such as Bush Driver, have expressed gratitude for the support, stating they will use the funds to purchase essential items like maize.

Chikwawa District Council officials have praised MRCS for their timely intervention, highlighting the positive impact on affected communities.
