Malawians question DPP’s choice of Mutharika as presidential candidate

By Lyson Swala

Some Malawians have expressed concerns over the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) decision to field 86-year-old Peter Mutharika as their presidential candidate in the September 16 general elections.

In comments on the DPP’s Facebook page, where a video of Mutharika’s return from South Africa was shared on Friday, many have urged the party to consider a more energetic leader.

The concerned Malawians argue that Mutharika’s age and health may not be suitable for the demands of the presidency, and that a fresh face could better represent the party’s interests.
