MUBAS Graduation 2025:A Girl’s Resilience and Professionalism

By Andrew Mwanandiye Tembo

For years, Malawi has made significant efforts to empower girl-child education as a way of promoting gender equality.

Although the response from guardians and girls themselves has, to some extent, resisted these efforts, progress is being made. More youths are realizing the importance of complying with these initiatives, and one notable example is Charity Ng’omaikalira, born in 1992.

Charity Ng’omaikalira,

Charity is among the 344 students who recently graduated from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) with various certificates, diplomas, and degrees. The ceremony, presided over by President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, MUBAS Chancellor, took place on Monday, May 26, 2025. Out of the 344 graduates, 237 are male, while 107 are female.

Charity serves as the Assistant Public Relations Officer at Blantyre City Council. With a strong background in journalism and public relations, she brings nearly a decade of experience in strategic communication, media relations, crisis management, and stakeholder engagement.

Notably, she holds a Bachelor of Business Communication from MUBAS, completed in 2024, and a Diploma in Journalism from The Polytechnic University of Malawi.

Throughout her career, Charity has played a key role in preserving the Council’s public image, coordinating press engagements, and crafting impactful messages on developmental issues such as sanitation, climate change, and civic engagement.

Charity’s work and achievements position her as a rising voice in Malawi’s public sector, symbolizing resilience, professionalism, and the power of women leading change in their communities. This graduation marks the second MUBAS congregation since the institution was delinked from the University of Malawi in 2021.
