NBS Bank National Division League: Red Lions beat Fomo 2-0 to move second on the log table

Red Lions scored twice in the space of four second-half minutes to beat FOMO FC 2-0 at Balaka Stadium and move to the second position on the NBS Bank National Division League log table.

Dan Nyambose put the Reds in front in the 60th minute, connecting well a beautiful set piece from Fergason Mtondo.

After assisting the first goal, it was time for Mtondo to put his name on the score-sheet and he did that in spectacular fashion as he scored with a beautiful strike in the 64th minute.



After the match, Red Lions coach Malumbo Mkandawire thanked his charges for the spirited performance which has taken then closer to the top spot on the log table.

Following the win, the Zomba-based soldiers are now on second position on the log table with 12 points, level with Mitundu Baptist who are perched at the top after playing 5 games.

In other matches played on Saturday, Ndirande Stars suffered a 3-1 loss at home against Bwangwe All Stars.

Mitundu beat Chilumba Barracks 1-0 with the goal coming in from Raheem Mtondera from the penalty spot.

Fifth placed Baka City and Namitete Zitha who are on position 3 played out to a goalless draw.

On Sunday, Mchinji Villa FC will host Chintheche United at Mchinji Ground as Ntaja United play Jenda United at Balaka Stadium.

Jenda United are the only side who are yet to register a point in the 12-member national division league.
