NICE trains roving observers in Dowa to enhance credible elections

By Chisomo Phiri

The National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Public Trust has called on its roving observers in Dowa to ensure accurate reporting of incidents on polling day to help promote free and fair elections.

NICE Planning and Research Specialist, Peter Maluwa, made the appeal on Monday during a training session for roving observers held in Mponela, Dowa.

Maluwa explained that the observers are being trained to collect real-time data on election-related incidents through ‘Masoathu’, a monitoring system developed as part of NICE’s coordination efforts with its partners.

He stressed that the initiative is designed to support free, fair, and credible elections by enabling rapid response to any issues that may arise on voting day.

On his part, one of the roving observers, Kingsley Mlozi from Dowa East Constituency, pledged to carry out his duties with diligence and impartiality.

NICE is implementing these activities with support from the European Union (EU), UNDP, Oxfam, and COMESA.
