Social and economic expert trashes Kabambe over his careless and bluntant lies on Tv

By Linda Kwanjana

Former Reserve Bank Governor Dalitso Kabambe has come under fire for lying on Times Tv on the economic status of the country.

Kabambe is on record, having told the Times TV that Malawi economic status is bad because of the leadership crisis facing the country.

But in an exclusive interview, experts say Kabambe demonstrated that he does not understand the global economic trend currently happening in the country.

Social and economic expert Undule Mwakasungula says Kabambe should stop misleading people taking advantage of his knowledge of the economy.

Mwakasungula

He said; “Dalitso Kabambe, UTM’s presidential aspirant sentiments on the Malawi’s economy  not doing well due to leadership crisis  is simply  political. There are several factors, both domestic and global, that have contributed to Malawi’s current economic situation, and attributing it to leadership is undermining the complexity of the challenges,” he said.

Undule said Kabambe  statements are just politically motivated, aimed at undermining the current  leadership and government in order to gain votes at the coming UTM elective convention where he is aspiring to stand.

Political commentator Ceasar Kondowe said what Kabambe is saying is political gimmick.

When Dr. Chakwera took over the government, there was Covid 19, natural disasters, and geopolitical wars.

He said, even in Zambia, they are experiencing more challenges than us.
Kondowe commended government efforts in restoration of the economy.

He said Malawi is doing well on this part.

Another renowned Governance and economic expert Mabvuto Bamusi says the economic challenges which Malawi is experiencing has completely nothing to do with the current leadership.

Bamusi said the challenges which Malawi is experiencing is as a result of various factors which include disruption of supply chain of various commodities such as fuel and fertilizer.

Bamusi said the economy globally is bad and pointing fingers at the government and the president as the ones killing the economy is bad. Bamusi said it will take time for these challenges to come to an end.

Mutharika is Deficient of Moral Grounds to Trash Chakwera Leadership if His Zameer Karim Saga Involvement is to be Traced

By Linda Kwanjana

On Saturday September 21st, 2024  former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika deepened in town sending a hurricane attack on President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera’s leadership characterising it ” _failed_ “.

Funny but true though! Let a minute pass and reason together! Is it justifiable that Mutharika must be attacking the current regime at a  time our economy is passing through a thorny path?

To begin with Mutharika is infertile of moral grounds to spit fire on Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and his government. Why? Mutharika is prince of thieves himself.

Mutharika

Sad memories are still fresh of how Mutharika and his benchmen successfully turned Malawi Police as their cash cows.

In 2018, the High Court of Malawi froze Mutharika Account Number 0140031992200 at Standard Bank, whose sole signatory stood Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Peter Mutharika, for an unlawful receipt of MWK145 million donation from a Malawi Police Service (MPS) supplier Zameer Karim.

Then, Youth and Society (YAS) took Mutharika to task wheeling on accusation of daylight thievery.

The case was a direct inference of a leaked Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) dossier showing that Pioneer Investments (PI) made an abortive interest claim of MWK466 million in the Police Food Ration (PFR) deal, and deposited MWK145 million into the the said DPP bank account No. 0140031992200.

The Democratic Progressive Party through spokesperson Shadric Namalomba, issued an apology, saying it regretted accepting the donation from Pioneer Foods and the subsequent error of judgement was a swift refund of the money to Pioneer Foods.

“The DPP is also committed to exercise more due diligence in receiving donations in the future,” wrote Namalomba.

The November 2017 ACB report indicated that the contract price to Pioneer Investments Limited of Karim was inflated within days of signing, by MWK466 million from MWK2.327 billion to MWK2.793 billion.

In the principle of rule of law, if one breaks the law , only competent courts make final judgement.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General Peter Mukhito has vehemently denied rumors that he endorsed the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) during a DPP mega rally at Katoto Ground in Mzuzu on Saturday.

Social media was abuzz with claims that Mukhito had thrown his weight behind MCP ahead of the 2025 general elections.

In an interview with Voice of Livingstonia Radio, Mukhito described the reports as baseless, misleading, and mere propaganda aimed at tarnishing his image and sowing confusion.

Mukhito

“I urge the public to disregard these reports. They are acts of propagandists and totally wrong and false,” Mukhito emphasized.

Mukhito reaffirmed his commitment to DPP’s leader and presidential candidate, Professor Peter Mutharika, urging Malawians to rally behind him as “the only one ready and steady to rescue the nation from the current socio-economic woes come 2025”.

During the rally, Mukhito reportedly stated that people from four political regions had unanimously agreed to vote for Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and oust the MCP government.

Mukhito’s clarification comes amidst speculation about potential alliances and endorsements ahead of the 2025 elections.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Mukhito’s statement serves as a reminder of his dedication to DPP and its leadership.

The DPP has been gearing up for the 2025 elections, with Mukhito playing a key role in mobilizing support for the party.

His endorsement of Mutharika underscores the party’s confidence in its presidential candidate.

As Malawi prepares for the polls, the debate around leadership and vision for the country’s future intensifies.

Mukhito’s reassurance of his commitment to DPP and Mutharika is expected to bolster support among party faithful.

Tension grips Zomba as a police officer allegedly shoots dead a fleeing driver at the 4 Miles roadblock, sparking outrage and violence.

The incident has led to a mob blocking the Blantyre-Limbe road and chasing away police officers manning the roadblock in anger.

Eyewitnesses describe the scene as chaotic, with protesters demanding justice for the deceased driver.

The Eastern Region Commissioner, Babra Tsiga, has remained tight-lipped, neither confirming nor denying the incident, citing an impending police statement.

This incident raises concerns about police conduct and the use of lethal force.

The Malawi Police Service has faced criticism in recent years for alleged human rights abuses and excessive force.

Community Reacts

Residents of Zomba have expressed outrage and frustration, calling for accountability and reform within the police force.

“This is unacceptable,” said one resident. “The police are supposed to protect us, not kill us.”

The incident has also sparked fears of escalating violence and mob justice. Last week, a suspected thief was burnt to death by an angry mob in Blantyre.

Similarly, four men were sentenced to seven years in prison for torching a police station in Thyolo.

Police Under Scrutiny

The police have come under intense scrutiny in recent months.

In a separate incident, a police officer was arrested for allegedly shooting a minibus driver.

The officer, Sergeant Luka Naphiyo, is facing charges.

The Malawi Police Service must take immediate action to address these concerns and rebuild trust with the community.

This includes investigating the incident, holding accountable those responsible, and implementing reforms to prevent similar incidents.

Calls for Calm

As tensions run high, authorities are urging calm and restraint.

The police have assured the public that a statement will be released soon, providing clarity on the incident.

In the meantime, residents are advised to remain vigilant and avoid confrontations with law enforcement.

The situation is fluid, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
