Malawi Leader President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has re – confirmed his commitment towards leading the country beyond 2025.
Chakwera was speaking today at a political rally at Area 24 ground in Lilongwe where among others political veterans including former asecretary general for DPP Grezeder Jeffrey has joined the rulling Malawi Congress Party.

He said Malawians are witnessing various developments across the country including the railway line, which was abandoned 20 years ago hence entrusting him at the convention to lead them to 2025 general elections.
The President said he has been able to increase Community Development Fund (CDF), increasing access to cheaper farm inputs, reviving the donor aid confidence as well improving the welfare of chiefs as well as improving the welfare of security officers by building them houses.
“All Malawians of good will knows that I have been able to increase the welfare of our teachers and I thank you all Malawians for being there for me despite obstacles that are there and I urge you MCP members to work tirelessly helping these Malawians to register for 2025 general elections, for our good development projects to progress in the next five years,” the President said.
The Malawi leader has also condemned other people in the country who are politicizing the death of late Vice President Saulos Chilima by saying that him and his vice had a common goal to serve Malawians and politicizing the death is inhuman.
“I believe in empowering women and the youth in higher positions and for your own sake I will be serving you until 2030, this is the only government right now until 2030,” Chakwera highlighted.
In a move seen as a strategic effort to woo the Muslim community ahead of the 2025 presidential elections, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader and Malawi’s prospective President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, met with Muslim leaders on Sunday.
The meeting, which took place at a private venue in Lilongwe, was attended by prominent Muslim leaders from across the country.
During the meeting, Mutharika assured the Muslim leaders that, under his leadership, he will restore the country’s freedoms, revive the economy, and address the challenges brought about by the Tonse Alliance, led by the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

He emphasized that his administration will prioritize the needs of all Malawians, regardless of their religious affiliations.
“We recognize the significant contributions that the Muslim community has made to the development of our country.
“As your leader, I assure you that we will work tirelessly to address the challenges that you face and ensure that your rights and freedoms are protected,”said Mutharika.
Mutharika also took the opportunity to criticize the current administration, led by President Lazarus Chakwera, for its handling of the economy and governance issues.
He accused the Tonse Alliance of failing to deliver on its campaign promises and instead, imposing harsh economic measures that have negatively impacted the lives of Malawians.
“The current administration has failed to revive the economy, and instead, has increased taxes, fuel prices, and cost of living.
“We will reverse these policies and implement new ones that will stimulate economic growth and reduce poverty,” he said.
The DPP leader also assured the Muslim leaders that his administration will prioritize education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
He emphasized that these sectors are critical to the development of the country and will receive significant attention under his leadership.
In attendance at the meeting were DPP Vice President for the Eastern Region, Honorable Bright Msaka, SC, and the DPP Governor for the Eastern Region, Honorable Daud Chikwanje.
Both leaders echoed Mutharika’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for the Muslim community to support the DPP in the 2025 elections.
“We need your support to win the elections and bring about the change that Malawi needs.
“We promise to work closely with the Muslim community to address your concerns and ensure that your rights are protected,” Msaka said.
The meeting was seen as a significant move by the DPP to win the support of the Muslim community, which constitutes a significant portion of the electorate.
The party has been accused of neglecting the Muslim community in the past, and this meeting was seen as an effort to rectify that.
Muslim leaders who attended the meeting expressed their gratitude to Mutharika for taking the time to meet with them and listen to their concerns.
They emphasized that the Muslim community is looking for a leader who will address their needs and protect their rights.
“We are looking for a leader who will prioritize our needs and protect our rights.
“We believe that Professor Mutharika has the vision and leadership skills to do just that,” said one Muslim leader.
The meeting comes ahead of the 2025 presidential elections, which are expected to be highly contested.

Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) President Enock Kamzingeni Chihana has issued a stern warning that opposition parties in Malawi will boycott the 2025 elections if the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) insists on using national Identity Cards (IDs) for voting, which he claims is part of the MCP’s rigging scheme.
Chihana’s warning comes after Muvi wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party (MRP) President Bantu Saunders Jumah made similar sentiments, stating that besides boycotting the elections, there will be no government.
The National Registration Bureau (NRB) has been accused of planting faulty cameras in the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Regions of Malawi, where many people have been barred from registering, unlike in the Central Region, where young children under 15 have been registered as eligible voters.

Speaking during an AFORD Elective Conference in Lilongwe, Chihana said opposition parties do not trust MEC to conduct free, fair, transparent, and credible 2025 elections, citing MEC’s strategic position appointments as being on tribal lines, favoring the Chewas.
Chihana emphasized that opposition parties want to accept election results, but not with MEC, which is already running the affairs of the MCP, describing this as dangerous and a recipe for political violence in Malawi.
He praised Justice Dr. Chifundo Kachale for standing firm in the June 2020 elections and announcing the winner, reflecting the will of the people in Malawi for a change of government.
Chihana stated that opposition parties have no trust in MEC Chairperson Justice Anabel Mtalimanja and have not endorsed her to deliver free and fair elections in Malawi, except for the MCP, of which she is a part.
“AFORD and opposition parties don’t know Justice Anabel Mtalimanja; we have not vested her with trust to deliver credible elections,” said Chihana.
He criticized the way elections will be conducted in Malawi in 2025, likening it to a team bringing their own referee, with President Chakwera choosing a referee to preside over elections in which he is a candidate, describing this as nonsense.
Chihana assured Malawians that opposition parties will meet to map the way forward, and AFORD’s stand is for all Malawians, with or without National IDs, to vote in the 2025 elections.
President and Commander-in-Chief of the Muvi wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party (MRP), Bantu Saunders Jumah, has bestowed political activist Bon Elias Kalindo with the highest order of the land, the Order of the Lion of Malawi (OLM).

He has also thanked Bakili Muluzi TV, Mtanyiwa, and Sylvester Namiwa for fighting for the politicians’ battle, not for personal gain.
Jumah specifically thanks Namiwa and CDEDI for demanding that Richard Chimwendo Banda explain to Malawians who told him not to board the aircraft that killed Dr. Saulosi Chilima and eight others in the Chikangawa forest on June 10, 2024.
Speaking through a revolutionary voice on various social media platforms, Jumah has appealed to all opposition parties, particularly newly registered ones, to write a joint petition letter to President Chakwera, SADC, and the African Union, demanding to know who gave President Chakwera wrong information about Chilima’s plane crash.
He questions why President Chakwera has not fired MDF Commander General Dr. Paul Valentino Phiri and Moses Kunkuyu, Minister of Information, after they provided him with incorrect information. He suggested that the President is incapacitated and failing to discharge his duties, asking why he is still clinging to power or who is behind running the country on his behalf.
“MCP and President Chakwera think they are fooling Malawians, but they are actually fooling themselves,” says Jumah.
He claims that MCP never wanted Dr. Saulosi Chilima, citing that out of 84 corruption suspect names submitted by the ACB to President Chakwera, only Dr. Chilima was arrested and appeared in court, leading to his death, with President Chakwera being suspect number one.
The MRP President also questions why UTM supporters are quiet about the mysterious death of Dr. Chilima and eight others, despite pulling out of the MCP/UTM Alliance in government due to anger over the incident.
He asks Madam Dr. Patricia Kaliati and Mr. Newton Kambala why they are quiet, seeing the MCP continue running the government as if UTM is still in the Alliance.
Jumah has further advised Dr.Kaliati and Kambala that if they do not trust Malawi courts, they can seek legal redress at the SADC Tribunal and African Union, urging them to stand up and seek justice, as their quietness is a betrayal to the nation.
