In an effort to encourage teachers to work diligently and increase the number of students excelling in their education, McTimes Pagonanji Malowa has awarded a sum of 1.1 million kwacha to teachers who have demonstrated outstanding performance in their duties.
This initiative, implemented in the Maravi Zone of Chiradzulu District, aims to motivate teachers to continue striving for excellence, ensuring that more students are selected to advance to secondary schools.
Speaking at Nguludi Secondary School, Malowa acknowledged the teachers’ hard work, despite the area producing a smaller number of students selected for secondary school. He emphasized the importance of recognizing and appreciating their efforts.
Maravi Zone Education Advisor, Cecelia Mlenga, expressed gratitude for the support, noting that out of 795 students who sat for the PLCE exams, 666 passed, with 268 selected for secondary school, including 12 for national schools.
The initiative highlights the positive impact of teacher dedication on student success.
Kondwani Nankhumwa has emerged as the leader of the People’s Development Party (PDP) after securing the position unopposed during the party’s 2024 convention held in Blantyre. The convention aimed to elect members to various leadership roles, though most positions went uncontested.

The vote counting process has commenced at the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) convention, being held at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe. Delegates have cast their votes, and it is anticipated that the counting will be completed within the next hour.
Several key positions within the party have already been filled without contest. These include the roles of President, Vice President of Administration, Chief Electoral Officer, two Assistant Secretaries, Treasurer, Chief Organizer, Spokesperson, and the leaders of the Women’s and Youth wings.
Notably, prominent figures such as Enock Chihana, Timothy Mtambo, Dr. Emran Sherif, AAmatullah Annie Maluwa, and Emmanuel Mtunga have secured their positions unopposed. This lack of competition reflects a strong consensus among party members regarding these leaders’ roles and contributions.
As the convention progresses, the focus will shift to finalizing the results and outlining the future strategies for AFORD under its newly elected leadership. The smooth completion of this process underscores a significant moment of unity and forward momentum for the party.
