The SID Youth Group over the weekend hosted a fundraising event in Blantyre, demonstrating the power of community solidarity in supporting Malawi’s most vulnerable people.

Although the group did not reach their financial target, organiser Ibrahim Yusufu said the contributions they received will still make a significant difference.

“We are grateful for what we managed to raise. With these funds, we will assist hospitals, orphanages, and underprivileged families in need of basic necessities,” he said.

Guest of Honour Brother Ishumael Katawala emphasised the spiritual and social value of charity work, describing it as a vital link between the wealthy and the less fortunate.

“Giving is not just about money; it is about compassion. When we help those in need, Allah rewards us with blessings. We must all strive to support our brothers and sisters who are struggling,” he urged.

The event was not just about raising funds but also about bringing people together. It featured vibrant performances from notable artists including Anganga Ajabiru, Aqeel Masinja, Muhammad Ali, Japhali Time, Raphael Sitima and others, creating an atmosphere of celebration and unity.

SID Youth Group plans to continue organising such initiatives in the future, aiming to expand their impact and inspire more people to participate in charitable causes.

The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) has launched a three-month civic education and election observation project aimed at promoting credible and inclusive elections ahead of Malawi’s 2025 General Elections.

Speaking at a press briefing at Karonga Diocese Offices, CCJP Desk Officer Obert Mkandawire emphasized that the project focuses on equipping communities with the right information to make informed decisions at the polls.

Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Chairperson Edgar Phiri welcomed the initiative, calling it timely and vital due to the prevalence of anomalies during elections stemming from a lack of knowledge.

The project, titled ‘To Strengthen Democracy Through Voter Education and Observation of the Malawi 2025 General Election,’ is funded by the Munstar diocese from Germany and will run from August 2025 to October 2025, according to Blessings Mtika’s report from Karonga.
