Campaign Field Marshal Zikhale in Phalombe for MCP Mega rally

The energetic Dr Ken Zikhale Ng’oma is back on the rallies trail as he, together with other MCP seniors will be invading Phalombe this Sunday for a mega rally.

The rally is scheduled to take place at Migowi School Ground from 1:30 in the afternoon.

Thousands of People from Phalombe are scheduled to attend. Zikhale who has quickly earned the title of ‘Campaign Field Marshal’ has received praise for his relentless campaigning which has seen the fortunes of MCP changing in the southern region

One Constituency Chairman from Phalombe applauded Dr Zikhale for being fearless and making the party lively in the south.”Zikhale is a machine, the rallies that he has been doing in the southern region has made the people in the south to fall in love with MCP again”  he said

Among the speakers at the rally will include ; Director of Youth Steve Baba Malondera, Regional Chairs Peter Simbi, Kezzie Msukwa, Minister of Sports Uchizi Mkandawire, Hon Ulandi Mussa , Babu Khamisa , Rev Mwayi Kauyambeni and Samson Mithenga

The rally will be spiced up by music from Phungu Joseph Nkasa, Gibo Pearson, and  Azimai achisamba from Mitundu*

Mtalimanja assures Malawians of secure,credible voter registration process

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja has assured Malawians that the newly introduced Electoral Management Devices (EMDs) system which the commission is expected to use during 2025 General Election registration process is secure and credible.

Speaking on Friday, during a meeting with development partners, Civil Society Organisations(CSOs) and the media held to demonstrate the voter registration process using the EMD, Mtalimanja said MEC will undertake a fresh registration of voters and will use new equipment which has been specially procured for the purpose.

She said the commission is migrating from the old system, the Biometric Voter Registration Kit (BVRK).

“The technology underlying the EMDs represents a significant enhancement in our operations in terms of modernisation of the electoral process, efficiency and cost-effectiveness

“It is our sincere expectation that the use of the EMDs and its system will ensure that the Commission generates a credible voters’ register free from multiple registrants and registrations obtained without due verification of eligibility in terms of age and citizenship,” she explained. 

“The assurance is that the machines are credible and all the data will be secure because one of the issues that people raised is the issue surrounding security and I can assure Malawians that the equipment is secure,” she added.

Mtalimanja further said MEC will soon embark on voter registration exercise, using the EMDs and appealed to the CSOs and the media to help in raising awareness to the public about the voter registration processes in order for eligible voters to register and vote.

“Our appeal to the CSOs and the media is to help us sensitise the public to ensure that every eligible voter register with National Registration Bureau (NRB) because every potential voter without a National ID will not be able to register,” she stated.

The MEC Chairperson also disclosed that the Commission has planned to conduct pilot voter registration in selected sites across the country before commencement of voter registration.

“The pilot will be conducted in both rural and urban areas, covering all the regions of the country.

“The primary objective of this pilot voter registration process, using the EMDs, is to assess and ensure their effectiveness and efficiency in registering voters,” she said.

In a separate interview, Women Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC) Executive Director Maggie Kathewera hailed MEC for introducing the EMDs system.

“We are living in a technologically advanced world and the adoption of EMDs system by MEC is something that has to be commended,” Kathewera said.

Kabwira confident of MCP’s victory in 2025

The newly appointed Malawi Congress Party(MCP) Publicity Secretary, Jessie Kabwira, has expressed optimism that the party will win the 2025 presidential election, saying the party is very powerful in all regions of the country.

Kabwira made the statement on Friday, August 16, 2024, during a press briefing at the party’s headquarters in Lilongwe.

According to Kabwira, MCP has implemented numerous projects within a short period, despite the various challenges the country has been facing.

She cited good roads, infrastructure for security officers, and favorable prices for crop produce as examples.

Kabwira emphasized that people who prioritize development will vote for MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to continue developing the nation, which was allegedly damaged by the  Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regime.

Additionally, Kabwira stated that the party’s doors are open to everyone.

On alliances with other parties, Kabwira mentioned that the MCP is willing to collaborate with others if they accept Chakwera as the torchbearer.

EGENCO announces 10-megawatt solar power plant installation in Salima

The Electricity Generation Company Malawi Limited (EGENCO) says the first phase of a 10-megawatt solar power plant installation at the Nanjoka site in Salima District will be completed in 18 months, with an estimated cost of around K23 billion.

EGENCO Project Development and Contracts Manager,Harry Msosa made the announcement during an engagement meeting with the Salima District Council and other stakeholders on Friday.

Msosa stated that the project has been delayed to allow the contractor to design the plant on-site.

“The project commenced on 5 July this year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 if all goes well,” he said.

On his part,Salima District Commissioner James Mwenda praised EGENCO for the project, saying it will help boost the socio-economic growth of the nation.

The 50-megawatt power plant will be installed in three phases at the 105-hectare Nanjoka site, starting with 10 megawatts in the first and second phases and 30 megawatts in the final phase.

Beit-CURE Malawi to host fundraising dinner to support surgeries for children with disabilities

Beit-CURE Malawi says it will host a fundraising dinner on September 27, 2024, aiming to raise K210 million to support surgeries for 80 children with various physical disabilities.

Beit-CURE Malawi Acting Executive Director Ezekiel Milelu,made the announcement during a meeting at the institution’s premises in Blantyre on Friday to express gratitude to the corporate sector, organizations, and well-wishers who contributed to the success of the inaugural fundraising dinner last year, which generated K105 million.

Milelu stated that the meeting was also held to provide an opportunity for the benefactors to appreciate how the funds were utilized.

In her remarks,marketing and communication manager for FCB Bank, Taleetha Jussab,the headline sponsor of last year’s fundraising dinner, expressed admiration for the institution’s work in providing free treatment to children under 18 with physical disabilities and bone injuries.
