Donor Confidence: Chakwera holds bilateral talks with South Korea Prime Minister

Malawi leader President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, on Monday held bilateral talks with Prime Minister (PM) of South Korea, Dr. Han Duck-soo at Kamuzu Palace.

The South Korean PM jetted into the country earlier in the day as part of his working tour of Africa which includes Togo and Cameroon.

The talks between the two leaders centered around strengthening of ties in mutual areas of cooperation.

Thereafter, the two were joined by respective Foreign Affairs emissaries at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC).

The MoU will enhance Malawi’s relations with Republic of South Korea in mutual areas including Agriculture, Health, Human Resource Development, Education, Climate Change and Tourism among others.

During the discussions, President Chakwera thanked the Prime Minister and the people of South Korea, for their swift response in providing humanitarian assistance to Malawians during Cyclone Freddy.

In addition, South Korea has promised to continue assisting Malawi in smart agriculture that will coincidentally help the country build resilience against future climate shocks.

The JPCC – whose meetings will alternate between two to three years – will among other outcomes facilitate the establishing of a diplomatic mission in Lilongwe.

The Republic of South Korea closed their mission in Lilongwe in 1992.

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has since left Malawi for Togo.

St Louis Montfort Choir set to launch their new album “Ndife Yani”

St Louis Montfort Choir from Balaka Parish of Mangochi Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church, will on November 5, 2023 launch its latest album titled ‘Ndife Yani’ at St Louis Montfort Church in Balaka.

The album launch is expected to start at 1 o’clock in the afternoon and is expected to come to an end in the evening.



According to one of the members of the choir, Foster Lokote, preparations to the launch of the 16-track album are at an advanced stage.

Among some of the artists expected to support the album launch are Eliza Mponya, Violet Tengani,Ruth Missi,Paul Subili, Chanco Catholic Alumini Choir and St.James Choir (Chilomoni Parish).

FD Communications retains top advertising agency accolade

FD Communications Ltd has scooped the 2023 Advertising Agency of Year award, cementing its position as the country’s most awarded advertising firm under the Institute of Marketers Malawi (IMM) prestigious Marketing Excellence Awards.

FD Communications Ltd emerged on top of five other advertising agencies in the running for the award. In addition, FD Communications’ Lilongwe-based Graphic Designer Kennedy “Spyral” Mwenya scooped the IMM’s Creative Artist of Year award beating a field of 12 other designers.

Receiving the award at the 2023 IMM Lakeshore Conference in Mangochi on Saturday, Director of Client and Media Services Chifundo Scott attributed the company’s achievements to the support and collaboration from lead clients.

“We are greatly indebted to our clients, notably Standard Bank Plc, TNM Plc, JTI, Castel Malawi and Illovo Plc, for giving us the opportunity and space to demonstrate our creative and media strategies. 2023 is an especially difficult year for the economy, and while this is negatively impacting on our operating budgets, we continue to work well under pressure to manage client expectations and deliver excellence,” he said.

FD Communications contributed to work for Standard Bank Plc, TNM Plc, Illovo and Castel that won awards in respective categories. FD also received nominations in the categories of Marketer of Year and Innovative Idea of Year, and contributed three designers to the Creative Artist category nominations.

For her part, IMM President Isabel Masi-Kachinjika said; “These awards recognize those who have broken through barriers, propelling their businesses and our economy forward. I commend the dedication of marketers who made submissions this year and I am confident that their efforts will continue to fuel economic growth in Malawi.”

This is the fifth IMM advertising agency award for FD Communications having also won the category in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020. The company offers full fledged communication and media solutions ranging from advertising, Public Relations, media placements, digital marketing and PR, experiential marketing, audio and television, and media production.

This year’s Marketing Excellence Awards were held under the theme, ” _Breaking Barriers: Marketing as a Catalyst for Economic Growth_ “.

Dorothy Kachitsa elected AWOME Chairperson

Journalist Dorothy Kachitsa has on Sunday been elected chairperson of the Association for Women in Media (AWOME).

The elections took place at its first ever Annual General Meeting held in Mponela in Dowa district.

Speaking after the election, Kachitsa,said she will not disappoint women in the media in the country.

“I pledge to use the association as a platform that will provide mentorship for female media practitioners.

“It has not been easy for the association to get this far, we owe it to support from a lot of people and institutions, I would like to ask all women practitioners in the media industry to take advantage of the association to network and build each other,” said Kachitsa.

She added that the vision for the newly ushered executive committe is to ensure that women dominate in leadership and decision making positions like never before, but also strive to improve the country’s development.

On her part, veteran journalist Jayne, appealed for the new committee to cultivate unity in the group.

“I hope the new committee will level the ground to ensure that all members feel represented and part of the grouping,” she said.

The elections, conducted by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), also saw Lisa Malango appointed as vice chairperson, while Edith Gondwe was elected to the position of general secretary, deputised by Towera Katswiri.

Five media women were elected executive members and these are Wezzie Nyirongo,
Nyuma Chokhotho, Faith Kamtambe Kadzanja, Rabeca Chimjeka, and
Perina Wahara.

AWOME was registered 3 year ago.

Its goal is to promote the advancement of women in the Malawi media by providing trainings, networking opportunities, monitoring developments that affect and promoting the coverage women, among others.

SG Mkaka drums up support for Hon Nancy Tembo describes her as a hardworking person

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Elsenhower Mduwa Mkaka on Sunday assured the people of Lilongwe City South West that the Government has lined up different development activities aimed at changing the face of the constituency.

Mkaka was speaking at Sese Ground during the development rally. The SG said the Government has rolled out a construction of 900 Clinics across the country and that the said area will benefit.

According to Mkaka all projects which have been drawn in other constituencies will replicate to the area citing water, roads infrastructure, school blocks just to mention a few.

Mkaka has since asked people in the area to continue supporting Member of Parliament of the area Hon Nancy Tembo if the area is to continue receiving various projects from the Government.

During the rally , Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda assured the youths in the constituency that the Government is taking care of them through National economic empowerment fund (NEEF).

Chimwendo urged the youths to form groups and register in order to benefit from the scheme.

Speaking at the same rally, Member of Parliament for the area, Nancy Tembo, hailed Area committees in her constituency for the love shown towards MCP. She said what these people want is nothing but development projects.

Tembo commended the Malawi leader President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for the developments taking place in her constituency. She says Chakwera is developing Malawi without political eye even without seeing regions.

“These developments are taking place while Malawi is facing global challenges caused by natural disasters and wars in Europe we are so thankful to the president,” he said.

Nancy had time cites all projects taking place in her constituency for people to appreciate such as school blocks , water and sanitation, roads infrastructure, and many other projects.
